U-Pick Safety Tips for the Heat

  • Stay Hydrated: While snacks and drinks are not permitted in the U-Pick Fields you can bring water! Drink plenty of water before, during, and after your visit. Bring a water bottle and refill it as needed.
  • Wear Sun Protection: Use sunscreen with a high SPF, wear a wide-brimmed hat, and sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun.
  • Dress Appropriately: Wear light, breathable clothing and comfortable shoes suitable for walking in the fields.
  • Take Breaks: Rest in shaded areas periodically to avoid overheating. Don’t overexert yourself.
  • Start Early: If possible, visit the fields when they first open at 10am when temperatures are cooler.
  • Know the Signs of Heat-Related Illness: Be aware of symptoms like dizziness, headache, nausea, and excessive sweating. If you or anyone in your group feels unwell, seek shade and drink water immediately.
  • Supervise Children: Ensure children are drinking water and taking breaks as needed. Keep an eye on them at all times.
  • Follow Field Guidelines: Adhere to all posted guidelines and instructions from staff for a safe and enjoyable experience.

FAQs

Can we bring our own containers?

No! Please only use picking pails provided by Horsting's Farm Market. Pails are included with your ticket and you are able to pick them up at the Farm Market.

Can I just show up to U-Pick?

We highly suggest purchasing your tickets in advance! That way all you have to do is check in at the Farm Market or Gold Trail Goody Shack and pick up your pail!

When is the best time to do U-Pick?

Due to the hot weather we experience during the summer we highly suggest coming in the morning before the heat of the day!

Are the U-Pick Fields open rain or shine?

Yes! Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear suitable shoes. Even mornings can be quite hot, so ensure you have the necessary gear, including water, sunscreen, and heat-appropriate clothing like a hat, umbrella if needed, and comfortable walking shoes.

Can I bring my dog?

No dogs are allowed due to food safety concerns.

Can I bring a small child?

Yes! With parent supervision, this is a fun family activity.

How many people can I bring?

You can bring as many people as you like! Since you’re purchasing by the bucket, feel free to bring as much or as little help as you need.
